Art holds both creative and cultural significance but unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to access or engage with it.
CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) will demonstrate that artistic talent transcends physical limitations by supporting visually impaired individuals to create AI-generated images for a one-of-a-kind art show.

how it works
CNIB provides their visually impaired community members with the opportunity to express themselves artistically through Midjourney and 3D printing. Storytelling is another form of art, and with text prompts, blind individuals can break physical barriers and express themselves in a new way with the help of AI.
How do people find out?
CNIB community members will be invited to create unlimited images through the CNIB Midjourney account on Discord via brailled invitations. The out-of-home ads, designed with circular shapes to represent braille, will be equipped with sensors that release an audio signal, enabling visually impaired and sighted people to approach the ad and scan the QR code for more information. Additionally, tactile pathways made with temporary raised stickers will guide visitors to the AGO for the exhibit's duration.

execution
The artists' words are transformed into unique paintings using Midjourney and then enhanced with layers of texture through 3D printing, providing a tactile experience for the artist and art showgoers. The pieces will be showcased in an art show with braille descriptions that reveal the journey behind each artwork. Non-blind visitors can join in too by putting on a pair of blackout specs to give the works a new emotional depth.
